Culturally Appropriate Me
Let me call you out
on your lack of appreciation.
It runs thick in my blood,
deeper than your imagination.
My heritage, my roots and my values
are so deeply carved in history.
You would never be able to understand
the extent of my trauma
often caused by my own kind
which causes us to strive,
leaving you behind.
This long line of traditions,
Much more than you can comprehend.
Far thicker than anything put down
in pencil or in pen.
Go ahead and appropriate me,
Rape, pillage, put me out of my misery.
Because my essence is so deeply part of history.
This is my indefinite way of dominance.
You can never ever copy my innocence.
I am not afraid of losing authenticity,
Because culture is forever evolving, growing unlike your mentality.
The original will always be one step ahead.
You, two steps behind.
And whatever you ‘claim’ to be yours
we will do better instead,
In bed.
