When I was a child I grew up with the idea
That truth was a singular concept
A universal belief which was shared
The only way of being which we strived for
Growing up, plucked away from my land
I was thrown into different cultures
Exposed to alternative practices
And learnt from all the continents
I have learnt that truth is not something
That someone can impose on me
Truth comes from within
One person’s truth varies from the other
What might be truth for me
Might not be the same for you
But my ability to agree to disagree
Allows us to live peacefully
So I thank you for your differing views
And perhaps that you might look
Or think in contrasting ways from me
In order to make our world more colourful
